Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Plug-in Thermal Camera?
A plug-in thermal camera (also called an "external thermal imaging module" or "thermal camera dongle") is a compact, portable thermal imaging device designed to connect to external devices (such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, drones, or industrial controllers) via standard interfaces (e.g., USB-C, Lightning, HDMI, or MIPI). Unlike standalone thermal cameras (which have built-in displays, batteries, and processing units), plug-in models rely on the host device for power, data processing, and image output—turning ordinary devices into thermal imaging tools at a lower cost and smaller form factor.
